“Most of our biggest clients in 2025 came from SEO and SEO Next Door made that happen”

Oxgital is a digital marketing and advertising agency based in Lagos, Nigeria.
Oxgital offers branding, social media, SEO, and growth strategy services to startups and small businesses, primarily in West Africa, but with global ambitions.
When we started working with them in September 2024, they had:
- No organic traffic
- No keyword rankings
- No backlink profile
- No domain authority
They were completely invisible on Google.
But, in 2026, they’re now ranking for nearly any keyword while going from 0-345+ organic traffic and over 13K active website users in 16 months

The Project
The goal was simple but daunting:
- Launch Oxgital’s organic growth from ground zero.
- Attract non-branded, high-intent visitors.
- Compete with other digital marketing agencies without relying on paid ads.
There was no technical SEO setup, no content to optimize, and no brand awareness.
This was a true “build it from scratch” moment.
And that’s exactly what we did.
My Approach to the Problem
We knew we couldn’t compete with legacy agencies on authority or backlinks, at least not yet.
So, we had to be precise.
Every step had to earn ROI.
Here’s the exact 4-pillar strategy we used to get Oxgital on the SEO map:
1. Laying a Solid SEO Foundation
Before we even touched content, we set up the fundamentals (to mention a few):
- Meta titles & descriptions
- URL structure and internal links
- Robots.txt, sitemap.xml, and indexability audits
- Schema markup
- Core Web Vitals and page speed
- Mobile responsiveness and crawl budget optimization
This gave Google a clean foundation to crawl and index.
Without this, nothing else would’ve worked.
2. Publishing SEO-Driven, Intent-Matched Content
We created brand-new pages from scratch.

Each page was designed to serve real search intent and compete within focused content clusters, growing organic traffic from 0 to 345

Examples include:

Also ranks #6 for “billboard advertising cost”

Each article and page targeted long-tail keywords, incorporated internal links, and was optimized for mobile, speed, and readability.
Most importantly, every topic was mapped to a real-world query using competitor analysis and search intent data.
3. Reverse-Engineering Competitor Gaps
To make our content work harder, we analyzed top-ranking agencies in Nigeria:

We broke down their keyword portfolios, found content gaps, and identified underserved queries.
Then we reverse-engineered those topics, creating better content with clearer value, improved structure, and modern SEO on-page practices.
4. Link Building via Local Directories
With no PR budget or outreach team, we leaned into something simple and scalable:
Directory listings.

We optimized the Google My Business page and submitted Oxgital to 5+ relevant local and global directories like Clutch, curated for relevance, indexing, and authority.
This earned:
54 new referring domains, and 41 of them are followed

576 total backlinks, and 550 of them are followed

A small but diversified backlink profile across industries and geographies
The Results

From September 2024 to January 2026, Oxgital’s SEO growth was steady, strategic, and most importantly, non-branded.
| Metric | September 2024 | January 2026 | Change |
| Organic Traffic | 0 | 345 | 0 → 345 |
| Organic Keywords | 0 | 75 | 0 → 75 |
| Referring Domains | 0 | 54 | 0 → 54 |

| Domain Rating (DR) | 3.7 | 42 | +38.3 DR points |
Traffic by Location:

Google Search Console:
All search clicks came from informational and commercial keywords.

Not a single visit was from branded searches.

This means every single visitor discovered Oxgital organically through topics they were already searching for.

What We Learned Working with Oxgital
Building organic growth from zero means there’s nowhere to hide.
- No domain authority to rely on.
- No existing content to lean on.
- No brand search to catch passive traffic.
Every ranking had to be earned.
And… every visit had to be engineered.
We also learned how powerful focused SEO content can be, even when you’re competing with better-known brands.
You don’t need 100 pages.
You need the right 10–15 pages, strategically positioned and backed by a clean technical setup.
Personal Takeaways From the Project
This was one of the most rewarding SEO projects I’ve worked on.
We were reminded that:
- You don’t need a massive content team. You need a clear strategy.
- You don’t need 500 backlinks. You need the right ones.
- You don’t need a big budget. You need patience and precision.
If you serve search intent better than your competitors, you will win, eventually.
And most importantly:
SEO still works.
But only if you respect the game.
In a nutshell, the Oxgital project wasn’t about chasing vanity metrics. It was about creating a sustainable, predictable, and intent-focused organic engine.
